Fire Code Friday: Latch Releasing Device

by Stacey Simmons

🔥TGIFire Code Friday! 🔥 A door in a means of egress must have a releasing device. Per NFPA 101 (7.2.1.5.3), these devices shall be located 34″-48″ above the finished floor and must not require more than one single linear or rotational motion to release the door. Hardware must operate with 1 hand and without tight grasping, pinching, or twisting of the wrist.

Exit devices (also called panic bars) like the ones pictured are great options for stairwells, hallways, exterior doors, and more. We’re here to help with any questions!
