Door closers should be adjusted so that they swing at the correct speed. The door should hold open long enough to meet ADA requirements and people can comfortably enter, but close before allowing too much of the outdoor elements into your cozy building.
If you need to use an ice melting product, remember to keep clear from thresholds. The chemicals can adversely affect your door hardware. This is a particularly common problem we see with in-ground floor closers, if not properly maintained.
