Tech Talk: Andrew
Who better to ask about locks than the knowledgeable technicians who work on them every day? This month, we’re featuring Andrew. He has 8.5 years of experience and is certified to work on safe and SCIF locks.
Q: What is your favorite type of lock to repair/replace? Why?
A: I wouldn’t say that I have a specific favorite. I like the variation in hardware that I come across every day. Everything operates differently and it keeps me from getting too comfortable with any one manufacturer/hardware type.
Q: What advice would you give about home locks?
A: You can put the best locks, and multiples of them, on your door but what is to prevent an intruder from entering through a window? Don’t forget to lock your windows! Unfortunately, forced entry is a thing that occurs and the best security starts with deterrents e.g. locked entry points, motion or timed lights, security cameras, a barking dog.
Q: What is the most memorable job that you’ve completed?
A: My most memorable job happened last year. I had a job encompassing 2 full weekends at The White House during a renovation. It was a lot of work and I had to abide by many rules but I was able to complete the work without issue. Mostly, it was memorable just due to location!
