Tech Talk: Featuring Chris
by Stacey Simmons
Who better to ask about locks than the knowledgeable technicians who work on them every day? This month, we’re featuring Chris, a Senior Technician and one of our “safe whisperers.” He has 10 years of experience and numerous certifications. In addition to standard door locks, Chris is a registered safe technician and is an expert with LKMs, X-10s, and S&G locks. Q: What is your favorite type of lock to repair/replace? Why? A: I enjoy working on SCIF doors and safes / GSA Containers so X-10 locks and LKMs are the locks I prefer to work on. They are made well and require time and precision to install. It takes a little brain work to complete installations. Q: What advice would you give about home locks and why? A: Personally, for home locks I would use Schlage Locks. They are made very well and have various grades to fit any type of scenario a client might have. They are very easy to install and have great tech support, when needed. Q: What is the most memorable job you’ve completed? A: My most memorable job would have to be the time a law enforcement agency called FedLock out to assist during an eviction, because the tenants refused to vacate. The agents slapped a Kevlar vest on me and two officers with riot shields covered me as I drilled open the door. Luckily for me, and everyone else, there was no confrontation and the job went smoothly. |
