Tech Talk: John

by Stacey Simmons
Who better to ask about locks than the knowledgeable technicians who work on them every day? This month, we’re featuring John. He has 8 years of experience and is knowledgeable about a variety of hardware. John has completed many factory certifications including iCore and LCN training.

Q: What is your favorite type of lock to repair/replace? Why?
A: My favorite lock replacements are upgrading knobs to a grade 1 lever sets. Levers give a greater degree of control and make opening doors easier for those with disabilities and mobility issues.

Q: What advice would you give about home locks and why?
A: Always have a spare key around – in your wallet, the car, or hidden around your house. It will save you time, and likely money, in the long run.

Q: What is the most memorable job you’ve completed?
A: My most memorable job was many years ago at a church. They had very old jimmy-proof locks that had been painted over. I changed out the cylinders, cleaned the locks and everything worked flawlessly. The client was ecstatic.
