Tech Talk: Nolan

by Stacey Simmons
Who better to ask about locks than the knowledgeable technicians who work on them every day? This month, we’re featuring Nolan. He has 4 years of experience and is knowledgeable about a variety of hardware. Nolan has completed many factory certifications including exit devices and mortise locks.

Q: What is your favorite type of lock to repair/replace? Why?
A: My favorite lock replacements are Schlage lever sets. It’s the brand I trust most and am confident they will meet clients’ needs.

Q: What advice would you give about home locks and why?
A: I recommend keying all locks at your home alike. If you have a door with a top deadbolt and a bottom knob or handle, you could key it to a two-level system. What that means is you have two different keys to work the lock which is beneficial if you have contractors or visitors frequenting your home. For example, this allows you to give a key to the babysitter or dog walker for the knob, but only you will have a key to the deadbolt. You can lock the door with your key and know your home is secure, even if someone has a key to one of the other locks.

Q: What is the most memorable job you’ve completed?
A: My most memorable job was the first time I worked on Blumcraft hardware. They are much different than traditional exit devices and I enjoyed learning how to adjust and rekey them.
