Tech Talk: Dan

by Stacey Simmons

Who better to ask about locks than the knowledgeable technicians who work on them every day? This month, we’re featuring Dan. He has 10 years of experience and has attended Allegion factory training to work on their numerous products.

Q: What is your favorite type of lock to repair/replace? Why?
A: I like working with Schlage hardware because it is very well built and tech friendly to work on. If issues arise, they also have good customer service and tech support.

Q: What advice would you give about locks to help clients in their everyday lives?
A: For home locks, I recommend people do their research on electronic locks bought from large online retailers. Many of these locks are knock-offs with unknown manufacturers from overseas which could be an issue for tech support and warranty issues. Too often we see these companies and products appear and then disappear within months. I would purchase from known manufacturers such as Accentra (Formerly Yale) and Schlage. Ensure whatever you install has a key override in the event of lock failure or battery failure.

Q: What is the most memorable job you’ve completed?
A: We live in an area with a very interesting population. I’ve worked with many celebrities and influential people: founders of Fortune 500 companies, major league athletes, and government officials. It is fascinating to talk with them about unique life experiences.
