Tech Talk: Eduardo

by Stacey Simmons

Who better to ask about locks than the knowledgeable technicians who work on them every day? This month, we’re featuring Eduardo. He has 2.5 years of experience and is factory-trained on many brands of locks.

Q: What is your favorite type of lock to repair/replace? Why?
A: Schlage lever sets. Their grade 1 products are well made, easy to install, and it takes many universal lever cylinders. They are user friendly and easy to rekey.

Q: What advice would you give about locks to help clients in their everyday lives?
A: For your home, I recommend investing in high-quality deadbolts. You should always rekey or replace locks when moving in to a new house. You don’t know how many keys might be floating around with the previous owner’s family, dog walker, etc., so it’s important to make sure those old keys no longer work. For ease of use, keying all locks the same is also helpful.

Q: What is the most memorable job that you’ve completed?
A: My most memorable job actually happened recently, when we had to take down an extremely large door (12 feet tall!) that required 3 technicians. We found out the door closer arm wasn’t standard but we were able to modify the hardware while in the field. Doing this modification allowed us to see a unique project and also ensured we could rehang the door and have a properly working entrance for the client and their tenants.
