NFPA 80 (6.1.3) classifies swinging fire doors into three categories:
Self closing – these doors are equipped with a closing device and close each time the door is opened.
Automatic closing – closes and latches automatically when released by an automatic fire detector.
Power operated – auto operator is automatically disconnected during an alarm, so they are manually operable and cannot be held open automatically.
Remember that fire code requires ALL fire doors to close and latch so any of your labeled fire doors must meet one of these classifications. We’re here to help with any questions and ensure your doors are in working condition!
