Let’s review some lock and latch code (NFPA 80 6.4.4):
*Locks with interconnected deadbolts which are retracted when the latch bolt is retracted are permitted. *The latch throw minimum must be shown on the label and specified in the manufacturer’s installation instructions.
Interconnected locks are most common in multi-family buildings. In case of a fire, the resident must be able to use a single-motion for egress to exit their unit. When the user pushes down on the lever, it retracts both the latch and the deadbolt, meeting these requirements, and allows quick and safe egress.
