Helpful Hardware to Stay Healthy

by Stacey Simmons

Antimicrobial hardware is a great option for high traffic doors or buildings with medical offices. What makes these different from standard hardware? They have antimicrobial coatings specially formulated to inhibit the growth of bacteria by interrupting cell multiplication. The result is that the silver ions surround bacterial cells, blocking food and slowing the growth of bacteria, mold and mildew. Antimicrobial hardware is manufactured by a variety of companies and includes lever locks, push/pull bars, exit devices and more.

Another great option is touch-less hardware, such as foot pulls. This allows people to open a door without using their hands. Auto operators are also very low contact. The button can be pushed with an elbow and there is no need to touch the door itself, therefore reducing the spread of germs from multiple hands.
