Tech Talk: Chris

by Stacey Simmons

Who better to ask about locks than the knowledgeable technicians who work on them every day? This month, we’re featuring Chris. He has 14 years of experience, numerous certifications, and is an expert with safes and SCIF locks.

Q: What is your favorite type of lock to repair/replace? Why?
A: My favorite type of locks to repair/replace would have to be any LKM or any X-0 series locks because that is what I mainly work on.

Q: What advice would you give about home locks?
A: You should not skimp on price when it comes to home locks. Having cheap / poorly made hardware at your home will greatly decrease security. You want something strong and durable to avoid vandalism and misuse. After installing the proper high grade hardware, I would suggest using high security cylinders to gain key control and added security.

Q: What is the most memorable job that you’ve completed?
A: After all these years, I have seen some interesting things. The most memorable would probably have to to be when I was with a federal law enforcement agency and had to suit up with a Kevlar vest! I was assisting with the locks during an eviction and those people didn’t want to leave. Most evictions are a standard rekey but this one was pretty exciting.
