Tech Talk: Chris R
Who better to ask about locks than the knowledgeable technicians who work on them every day? This month, we’re featuring Chris. He has 14 years of experience and has a unique perspective since he was a technician for many years and now serves as our Senior Estimator.
Q: What is your favorite type of lock to repair/replace? Why?
A: My favorite locks are leversets because of their simplicity. Commercial grade levers offer various useful functions but remain easily operated by users. They are reliable for day-to-day use and provide sufficient security for many doors.
Q: What advice would you give about locks to help clients in their everyday lives?
A: When working with locksmiths, it’s helpful to have a solid idea of what you are looking for so that you can express your needs but also be open to alternatives. We may be able to offer solutions that get you the desired result in a more efficient way than you had anticipated. Having a good grasp of your end goal will help us ensure the end result of our work will satisfy your needs and remove that item from your long list of tasks.
Q: What is the most memorable job you’ve completed?
A: One of my most memorable jobs was installing continuous hinges at a government facility that had many heavy doors, which were dragging on the ground. The continuous hinges solved an issue they had been dealing with for years and at a cost that was much lower than replacing the doors and frames would have been.
