Tech Talk: Nolan

by Stacey Simmons

Who better to ask about locks than the knowledgeable technicians who work on them every day? This month, we’re featuring Nolan. He has 7 years of experience, and certifications for many products including exit devices, closers, and interchangeable cores.

Q: What is your favorite type of lock to repair/replace? Why?
A: I like to work with exit devices. It feels challenging when you have to adjust rods, determine what’s causing the issue and find the solution.

Q: What advice would you give about locks to help clients in their everyday lives?
A: If you have glass panels on your home door, or directly next to the door, I recommend using a double cylinder deadbolt. An intruder can break the glass, reach through and unlock a traditional deadbolt. A double cylinder deadbolt requires a key on both sides. For convenience, you can store the key in a nearby drawer or other secure spot for easy access for your family but it would be out of reach to the intruder and they would still be unable to open the door.

Q: What is the most memorable job that you’ve completed?
A: My most memorable job was the first time I worked on Blumcraft hardware. They are much different than traditional exit devices and I enjoyed learning how to adjust and rekey them.
